Skerbeck Carnival
takes its safety program and responsibilities as a carnival midway provider seriously.
Customers have the right to enjoy the entertainment the carnival midway provides free from
worry that they will be inadvertently injured on a ride. Employees have the right to work
in an environment free from hazards and return from work in the same condition they
entered.
Policies, guidelines, and procedures have been designed to assure business is conducted in
a manner that provides a safe environment for customers and workers. The safety program
consists of four key elements Equipment Inspections,
Equipment Maintenance, Employee Training, and Customer Education.
Equipment Inspections
Ride inspections occur every day prior to opening by two different in-house State licensed
inspectors. In addition, third-party consultants inspect and perform non-destructive
testing of equipment on an annual basis. Skerbeck Carnival is also inspected and licensed
by State officials allowing the company to operate in Michigan and Indiana. Each State has
mandated safety inspection codes per state legislation. Please check the safety record

Equipment Maintenance
Skerbeck Carnival believes that a robust preventative maintenance schedule for rides is an
important component of safe equipment operation. Manufacturers scheduled maintenance
procedures are performed. Skerbeck Carnival utilizes its 90-foot-tall, maintenance
facility to perform annual equipment work.
Employee Training
Safety coordinators receive technical qualifications through training sponsored by the
National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials (NAARSO) and Amusement Industry
Manufacturers and Suppliers International (AIMS). The entire workforce attends frequent
safety meetings which are used to provide on-going training and to give the organization a
forum for open discussion of employee observations and/or concerns. Example topics at
safety meetings include: fire safety, staying alert (avoiding fatigue), the proper use of
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and behavior based safety tips such as staying out of
the line of fire and keeping your eyes on path.
Customer Education Skerbeck Carnival utilizes professional signs at each
ticket box as well as at each ride to communicate height and weight requirements. It is important for customers to understand that the ride manufacturers
and insurance companies establish the height and weight requirements in order to ensure
the safety of midway customers, children in particular.
